LocalSteps does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data. The guides you record — including every screenshot — are written to your own browser and stay there. We never see them, and there is no server for them to be sent to.
Everything LocalSteps creates is kept in your browser's local IndexedDB storage on the device you are using:
| Data | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Screenshots of the pages you record | Your browser, on your device |
| Step text, notes, page titles and URLs | Your browser, on your device |
| Recording state and Pro status | Your browser, on your device |
None of it is uploaded, backed up, synced, or shared. It never leaves your device unless you export a file yourself and choose to send it somewhere.
Nothing. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
If you buy LocalSteps Pro, payments are handled by ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe to process the payment. To unlock Pro features, the extension asks ExtensionPay whether your licence is active. That request carries only an anonymous extension-installation identifier.
Your email address and payment details are given to ExtensionPay and Stripe on their own checkout page and are handled under their privacy policies. We never receive your card details.
Your guides and screenshots are never part of this. They are not sent to ExtensionPay, to Stripe, or to us — not during a licence check, not at any other time. If you never buy Pro, the extension makes no network requests at all.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
tabs |
Chrome requires it to take a screenshot of the visible tab, and it lets recording continue when you navigate. |
scripting |
The recorder is injected into the page only while you are recording, and removed when you stop. LocalSteps has no always-on content script, so pages you visit at any other time are never touched. |
storage |
Remembers that a recording is in progress, and whether Pro is unlocked. |
unlimitedStorage |
Guides are screenshot-heavy and there is no server to offload them to, so they need room on your device. |
| Access to all sites | You could document a workflow in any web app, and we cannot know which in advance. This access is used only while a recording is running. |
LocalSteps never records the contents of a password field, or of any field named like a secret. Such steps are written as “Type your password into …” — the value itself is never read into a guide. Pro users can also black out any area of a screenshot; those redactions are burned into the image itself, so an exported file cannot leak what was hidden.
Delete an individual guide from the extension, or uninstall LocalSteps to remove everything it has stored. Because nothing is held anywhere else, that is the whole of it — there is no copy to ask us to delete.
LocalSteps is a tool for documenting work and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Any change that affects what leaves your device will be stated plainly here and in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
Questions about this policy, or about anything LocalSteps stores, can be sent to localsteps046@gmail.com.
